i have no idea what this year will hold. i can't even say what the next 2 weeks are going to hold. a familiar revisitation of the past for sure - not one i'm ready for or happy about. again with the vagueness - sorry but that has to eb the way it is for a little bit - it's not anything to do with the big 'C'.
i'm reading book right now (3 others are on my list). it's clled 'Merle's Door: Lessons from a Free Thinking Dog' and it's so good. i mean, marley was great and this one is equally as good, but in a different way. lots of studies and anthropological insight on why dogs do what they do. at any rate, it makes me happy - i mean, who can resist a face like that one?
the other 3 on my list to read asap are as follows:
The Kite Runner
3 Cups of Tea
Friday Night Knitting Club
happy new year - chris...stay warm. i'm sorry i didn't get to see you again before you left...you should understand why in a short while.
i thought it was beat. but alas, it's back. i'm vague for a reason. when i know more i'll share more.
i've been thinking about key words for the new year - my 'theme for '08' if you will.
and i think that my focus for 2008 will be 'ordinary miracles'. inspired by the song, but the more i thought about the words, the more i thought i should really focus on that for the year.
so, to prepare for the theme of 2003 for Stacy MacLaren - here you go
so, talli's post made me think a lot the past few days about where her thoughts are and a lot of others. and this is the conclusion i've come to...christmas is about one thing...the brith of christ. no one else's belief system than that of CHRISTIANS. this means that christ does in fact belong in christmas. no one has to believe that - the fact is the Christmas is all about christ. that's the reality of the holiday. it's not anyone else's savior's birthday (or calendar remembrance of).
in that vein - here is the meaning of CHRISTmas (i challenge you to watch and listen hard and then say that we should 'chill' on the "Christ out of christmas" arguement:
ruth graciously went with me to my holiday party last night. poor thing was probably bored out of her mind...but the food was good. and she probably wanted to crawl under the table to die when her mother inlaw got out on the dance floor with the girls and shook her groove thang to 'sexy back'. i had good time..if you don't count the very strong and not tasty comso.
dawn and i were up for the same award. it was really cool and i was honored because the only reason i was in it was from watching and learning from her. the award was the Northern lights award - the person in the company who received the most notes of thanks over the year. come to find out - she was #1 and i was #2. pretty cool...and as dawn said - i will really give her a run next year since i know what i'm doing now!
and here are some pics of the night:
roger is 50 today and we are both off to celebrate. roger's celebration of choice...if it ca't be vegas it's going to be Kartchner Caverns. so, in a few hours we will be heading south to spend the day in a large hole. great for a clostrophobic person!
now, when i turn 40 in 5 months i will celebrate the actual day here with friends & family, and then the following week i will be HERE!!! yep - june 1-6 we will be in maui baby!!!
hard to believe the christmas is a week from today. and chris will be home tomorrow.
of total randomness...
saturday we worked our tails off.
1400 dessert plated - lots of chocalate in various forms
1400 shot glasses with a fancy cold fish soup & chive oil
1400 martini glasses with shrimp, lobster ad other items in them.
all that in 6 hours...we were whipped
then it was shopping with mom. lots of fun but i was so tired when i got home
yesterday was my scrapping group's christmas party at the new scrap store.
this week is pretty busy too. i need to hit sprouts on the way home. i think the high is supposed to be 56 today so i'm thinking that chili will be good tonight. maybe i'll just hit bashas. last night was mozerella & grape tomatoes with balsamic - yummo!
ok - 4 minutes are up...gotta go get dressed for work!
it's been a while - here's a few highlights
got my a** handed to me by my GM because a guest threw me under the us apparently this guest is known for such tactics.
ornament party yesterday - got a cool ornament
another party tomorrow
work in about 45 minutes in the resort pastry kitchen - HUGE charity event tonight...all hands on deck in every department
pool close to overflowing from last weekend's rain. drained 4" from it yestreday, after the rain from today we will have to do it again.
found out compUSA is closing. i'm not sure how i'm feeling about this...trying not to panic for the kid's sake!!
and then there's these pictures from my snuggle bunny with his snuggle hippo
until later...ciao!
yep - this could be him and his stuffed buddy!!
on my computer. i'm giving myself until 5 and then i'm going out to get stuff from the garage off of the shelves so i can start decorating. i reality i should do the dishes first - but i'm not going to.
today i found out that there will be a new position opening at all of the resorts in our brand. it will be called a director of fun. think cruise ship director on dry land. i think that it would be perfect for me. i am going to start praying now that if it is god's will i can have that job. at the very least, when it is created i will be applying for it.
i'm so sleepy. i think that i am having a problem adjusting to the cold air at night. ok chris, i know...it's tucson cold and not chicago cold - but still...it's cold! i'm going to sit in the spa tonight...that has been heavenly.
i finished 5 christmas gifts last night. they are for my co-workers. they are each of their initials decorated in their favorite colors. i put a phrase on each one that reminds me of each person. i got some of my creative mojo back this weekend and it felt really good. i'm hoping that it keeps up.
everyone should know about pookie's special hippo. he loves it. ok, it's not the original but we stock up on them and always have one hidden in the closet. at any rate, he's so attached to it - ti's sort of cute. no one can have it without him having a fit. so, last weekend oj was laying on the pet bed next to the hippo and i just couldn't resist doing this!!
it's now 5:15. i guess i should get busy!
i love this time of year.
the smell of the trees...spiced tea...crisp air (finally!)...sitting in the spa when it's so cold at night.
love it.
shopping was great and i am done with ruth, mom and roger for christmas. i need to get roger's b-day, dad and pj finished. plus those random gifts.
back to work tomorrow and i'm actually lookng forward to it.
